DAVID MARSHALL is a Yakima-based economist who specializes in agriculture and the related food industries of Central Washington. Mr. Marshall is familiar with the farm fields and orchards of the area. He has first hand experience in the agricultural production techniques used for many crops, and as a trained economist, he is qualified to deal with common problems and business management needs of the agricultural industry. He has specific experience in the following:

From November 2001 through July 2007, responsible for management of Grower Accounting department. Long range financial projection modeling. Design and maintenance of various information systems, including spray recommendation records, profitability reports to orchard management, web site interface for growers, and CADD mapping.

Worked as agricultural economics research associate. Responsible for extensive analysis and summarization of farm and agribusiness financial and production records. Responsible for design and management of the company's computer system, software selection, and office training. Also engaged in soil and agronomic field sampling and scouting.

EXAMPLES OF WORK
Sweet Cherry and other soft fruit crop projections for the Washington State Fruit Commission.

Developed MS-Access databases for invoicing, time management, grower accounting, and miscellaneous accounting functions. Created systems for data mining and live interface with legacy accounting packages.

Developed and Maintained Visual Basic Program to capture size and firmness data from Cherry sampling equipment (Firmtech II) for better reporting to management and data feeds to other systems. Used by several warehouses.

Financial planning, forecasting, capital budgeting for farms, ranches, and orchards.

Developed multi-page linked spreadsheet models for financial planning and forecasting for a large, diversified hops, grape, and orchard company. Trained management on use of spreadsheet and model.

Cost Analysis Panel. Collected and analyzed apple and pear cost of production information for several established and experienced growers in the Yakima area to determine relative cost competitiveness.

Leaf Analysis and Entomology Sampling Software. Managed the redesign of Agrimanagement’s spring and fall leaf analysis nutrient reporting programs. Worked with part time programmer, horticulturist consultant, and computer operator to design and test software and organize database. Designed new web-based IPM reporting system, and managed development and maintenance, using Visual Basic to create an on-line HTML/XML database for grower access.

Summarized and analyzed entomology sampling data in orchards for an outside independent entomologist consultant on an annual basis for contract research with chemical companies. This involved analysis of variance (AOV) and least significant difference (LSD) evaluations of various treatments in regard to egg, larvae, and adult mite counts.

Research and Development. Coordinated research and development program for in-field testing and evaluation of new electronic soil moisture sampling equipment for Agrimanagement irrigation scheduling service.

Collaborated on Strategic planning process for 225-acre pear and apple orchard company, involving consultation on marketing strategies, business structure and financial strategies, information management, and labor hiring and management considerations.

Computer hardware and software training. Worked with and trained personnel in word processing, spreadsheet, database, accounting, and statistical programs. Responsible for helping people solve their hardware and software problems on an ongoing basis. Some programming in Quick Basic, Visual Basic, and Sunbelt, a structured database oriented language. Skilled in Internet use and many forms of information retrieval.
